Saniflo Canada Donates Trade-School Scholarships to Plumbing Apprentices

Saniflo Canada Donates Trade-School Scholarships to Plumbing Apprentices Registered in Ontario Trade Schools

Scholarships for up to three consecutive years will be awarded to qualified students pursuing a career path in the trades.

ONTARIO, CANADA (NOVEMBER 14, 2022) — Saniflo Canada has offered scholarships to qualified trade school students attending local colleges, with up to 20 scholarships being distributed by the end of 2022. The scholarships will help to cover the cost of tuition and books for the 2022/2023 academic year for two to four students per college. One of the students selected from each college will be female or a student that identifies as female.

Ontario colleges including Collège Boréal, Humber College and La Cité Collegiale will be offering two scholarships to eligible apprentices. Conestoga College and Mohawk College will distribute four scholarships each to qualified candidates.

“Industry manufacturers have a responsibility to support up-and-coming trade apprentices in order to secure the successful future of our trade industry,” says Saniflo Canada’s Managing Director Phil Warren, “Supporting and building trust within our communities in such an impactful way is something that is deeply rooted in our corporate social responsibility. We strive to align our brand vision with developing healthy communities from our product development to the final installation.”

Each scholarship will help to cover Level 1 tuition costs and books. In addition, Saniflo is offering ongoing support to help cover Level 2 and Level 3 tuition and books for qualified students who continue to pursue and complete all levels of the 306A Plumber (Apprenticeship) College Certificate Program.

Support Ontario Youth (SOY), a not-for-profit charity, was established in 2016 with a mission to support apprentices, employers, and stakeholders by providing a resourceful pathway for those looking to enter the trades, while also promoting awareness of the opportunities available in what is considered a nontraditional career path. SOY also advises and guides apprentices, setting them up for success by connecting them to job opportunities.

“Saniflo’s trade school scholarship program benefits our registered apprentices, as financial support is key for some students in successfully completing their apprenticeship,” explains SOY program director Glenda Rahn. “Some of our apprentices drop out due to other financial burdens that take precedence over their career paths. Scholarships ensure they have the support needed to continue their education.”

With SOY, Rahn focuses on developing successful programs for employers to trust that SOY can connect them with quality candidates while building that same trust with apprentices that their choice in a skilled trades career path will prove successful.

At Mohawk College, the application process opened on August 1 on the college’s website. Students have the entire academic year to apply for the award. Students can apply for the award at any time during the fall and winter semesters. With Saniflo supporting the award for the next three years, the scholarship recipients could potentially receive this award through their studies.

According to Senior Development Officer Gena Dureault, the trades are, collectively, a growing field with sponsors that have embodied a forward-thinking approach to supporting promising apprentices. “Having companies like Saniflo offer a program like this not only fulfills that corporate social responsibility,” she says, “but it encourages and inspires a diverse group of potential candidates to pursue careers in the trades.”

Students applying for the scholarships must be registered in Level 1 of the 306A Plumber (Apprenticeship) College Certificate Program, and perform well academically.

Scholarship recipients are invited to participate in hands-on product training from Saniflo’s Red Seal Plumber and a specializer, or a Saniflo Business Development Manager. The training would occur at the Cambridge Saniflo Academy, inside the Saniflo Cube Van, or at another agreed-upon location. Once this training is complete, apprentices are recognized as certified Saniflo installers and are listed on the Saniflo website.
